Home     /     Blog     /     Seat and Lumbar Cushion OEM Orders: A Buyer Specification Checklist
By Mr.Sun

An OEM seat or lumbar cushion order should begin with the chair environment and intended product shape. A cushion that fits one office chair may not fit a narrow dining chair or a deeply curved backrest. Define the application before requesting branding and price.

Separate seat and back requirements

For a seat cushion, specify usable width, depth, thickness and any cut-out. For a lumbar cushion, provide its profile, contact area and intended position on the backrest. These are different components and should have separate drawings even when sold as a set.

Identify the range of chair dimensions to be assessed. Do not describe a product as universal simply because it has an adjustable strap. Ask the supplier to explain the adjustment range and any unsuitable chair types.

Specify the foam and finished shape

Request construction details and available material specifications. For moulded designs, confirm which dimensions describe the unloaded product and how tolerances are checked. Compare samples on the intended chair rather than a flat table alone.

Record observations of compression, movement and fit. If a particular firmness is important, agree on how it will be specified and checked rather than relying only on words such as soft or firm.

Inspect covers and straps

Agree fabric, non-slip backing, seam locations and zipper access. Check whether the zipper or label contacts the chair or user in an awkward place. For straps, specify length range, fastening method and positioning instructions.

Test removal and refitting of the cover. Confirm care instructions for the backing as well as the upper fabric, because they may have different limits.

Prepare branding without unsupported claims

Approve logo placement, label text and package artwork on the actual sample. Do not add medical claims because a cushion has a U-shaped cut-out or contoured back. Describe measurable features and intended general use accurately.

Ask for documents relevant to the materials, model and destination. Match any claim to its evidence and keep the document version with the approved specification.

OEM approval checklist

  • Dimensioned seat and lumbar drawings.
  • Defined chair fit range and orientation guide.
  • Foam and cover specification.
  • Strap, zipper and non-slip-base details.
  • Logo, care label and packaging artwork.
  • Sample approval and production inspection method.

For a combined set, verify that packaging identifies both pieces and that the instruction sheet explains their independent adjustment. A single generic illustration may leave customers unsure about strap orientation.

Compare full costs

Request sample charges, branding setup costs, unit prices at the required quantity and carton information. Keep delivery terms consistent across quotations. Confirm whether replacement covers or spare straps are available and whether those items have separate minimum quantities.

Send Suneco Plus the chair measurements, drawings, quantity and destination with your enquiry. A detailed brief lets the proposed construction be evaluated against the application rather than chosen only for its appearance.
